Who tattoos you???

Why do you like tattoos? Why do you have so many? Don't you think people will think bad of you? Omg how did it feel when you had the inside of your lip tattooed? Really Vanessa don't you think you should stop getting tattoos? Why are you wasting money on tattoos? They aren't going to look nice when your old....

These are the things I hear often. I am guilty of having tattoos with no real meaning other then "oh it's cute I want it". But along with that I have ones that do mean something and remind me of people in my life who make my life awesome and life would be sucky without. One piece I have is a drawing the artist made that I liked and said OK lets put that on my leg. Lots of tattoo ideas float through my brain daily but I'm pretty set on what I want next.

I'm writing this blog to list who are the great artist I have been able to collect work from. In it you will see who they are and some piece's they have done on me.

First off we have Joey Hamilton. I collected my sparrow and heart with my mom's name on it at Hart and Huntington over 5 years ago by him. It was a piece they had in their book which he just added my mom's name to. He was really nice and has done lots of great work. If you ever watched "Inked" he was on it.

Second we have Fever...Mr. JohnnyFever. Everything I have from him was drawn just for me. I just tell him what I want and he draws away then tattoo's me. My first tattoo was done by him in 07" and it was Valentines candy on my wrist. He is the only person I have work from on my right leg. He is a Vegas artist with lots of talent and always fun to get tattooed by. When he's not drawing on a wall or tattooing he's DJing. Coming to Vegas and want something done let me know so I can give you this man's number. Hehe... By the way Fever I'm still waiting on my hippo ballerina tattoo!!

My arm started getting done in 2007 at the Queen Mary convention. Jay'e Jones started it with a lollipop tattoo. First and only time I've gotten work from a girl. She's a cool girl from Cali who currently owns her own shop. She's had he work in magazines and won awards for her tattoo's.

The same day I got the lollipop a artist named Jesse Perrault who worked with Jay'e had a cupcake he had drawn for somebody who never came back to get it. He showed it to me and I totally fell in love with it so I go it done right under the lollipop that day. Jesse is a awesome artist who is responsible for over half of my upper left arm. He is a artist from Canada who is currently in Canada again kicking ass in the tattoo world out there. I totally wish he wasn't so far away. He had to go back home before he could complete my arm as planned =(. I will make it to Canada some day =). If you ever go to Calgary, Alberta and want a wonderful tattoo he is your man to go see.

A candy sleeve wouldn't be complete without having  my favorite chocolate on it mmmm Reese's. I have only trusted one other artist to work on my upper left arm since Jesse left, that has been Carlos Rojas. He kicks ass at portraits and black N grey, hates color cause he says it's messy but I managed to get him to finish some purple shading, fill in my hearts and add a gummy bear to my arm. He is a award winning artist who currently works at Black Anchor Collective in Cali, has designed shirts for Sullen and is making his way around the world by traveling more and more to cool places like England and Australia.

The last tattoo I had done was a Lego. My 11 year old lives in a Lego world . It was done by Mathew Hurtado. If you follow tattooers I'm sure the last name sounds familiar. He works at Black Anchor Collective with Carlos and has been tattooing for a little while. He is a amazing painter as well. At the young age of 21 his work looks like he's been doing it for longer then he really has. I hope I can collect another piece from him in the future.

Blood type O positive.

I like donating blood or plasma. I really do. I would rather donate blood though. I have no problem going to a United Blood services office or mobile office to do it. I don't do it for money. I did get free movie tickets once though. I have type O positive blood. The universal blood, which means it can be used on other blood types but I myself can only receive O positive if needed. Sadly I have not donated blood since 2006 =/ once I got the courage to finally get a tattoo. See most states have a law that does not let you donate blood till a year after you have gotten a tattoo. Which I have not gone a whole entire year with out getting a tattoo since then. Whether it's a actual piece or just a touch up I haven't lasted a year. It makes me feel kinda bad to know I can't go and donate blood. It's important to do since we never know when we can have a nation wide emergency and blood can be needed or if a hospital patient needs extra blood to keep them from dying after a bad car accident. We live in a world that has made many of us turn into ungratefuls because we've never suffered true hardship or tragedy. Most of us have never been in the position were we actually need blood or a loved one has died because the hospital did not have enough blood for them. I love getting tattoos and I do think it is unfair that I can't donate blood because of it. But I do understand that because not everyone gets tattoos in a shop or clean environment is the reasons why these rules have been put in place. Not every state has the same tattoo laws and due to the fact that anybody can buy a tattoo machine and start scratching people skin makes it a health hazard. It does suck for those of us who get tattooed by trained professionals who do everything properly to insure that there is no cross contamination. I think anybody who is in good health should go donate blood if they can. You never know it might save a life. Maybe sometime soon I'll challenge myself to go a whole year with out a tattoo so I can donate once again.

The vitiligo & tattoos...

I've had vitiligo since I was 1. I don't ever actually remember seeing my skin without it. It's not as bad as most cases. But it has attacked my hands, knees and the top of my feet. If you look real close you can notice it's under my eye a lil and above my other eye a lil. I also had to listen to all the questions..." oh what happened? did you get burned?" " did you dip your fingers into boiling water?" "did your house burn down when you were lil and you got burned by the fire?" I use to feel like people would get grossed out by the vitiligo. If they knew anything about it they would know it's not contagious. Truth is not much can be done. I've seen skin specialist. Tried different creams and medicine..none have really helped. One helped once but the only way it would help was if I left the cream on too long and let it burn my skin, get a blister and be in pain for a good week. That was not fun to go thru in elementary. It's not life threatening. It does have to do with your nervous system but I won't die from it. Growing up with it just wasn't very pleasant.

Recently I saw online that a tattoo artist from another country tattooed a man with vitiligo. She tattooed a huge white spot under his neck with a color to match his original skin color. I wish I could have that done it would be awesome. Would some of the tattoo artists I know be willing to try it? I doubt it.. Well I haven't asked it just seems kinda hard to find the right tattoo ink to match my skin. Even if one was willing to try it there is still no telling how my skin would react to it. For the most part my skin has taken tattoo ink fairly well since I started collecting tattoos a few years back. I think part of the reason why I love collecting tattoos so much is because my skin has never been one solid color to begin with. It was always my mexican/costarican light tan and white vitiligo spots. So getting pretty colorful tattoos is a great thing. Maybe one day I can have something done to cover it up.
